This tea cosy can be knitted to make a girl evacuee (Tea-na) or a boy evacuee (An-tea-ney). The simple change to the hat determines if the evacuee is a boy or a girl.The children are wearing a burgundy duffle coat, a red hat and they have with them their gas masks, labels, suitcases and teddy bears.
It's a charming tea cosy and reminds us of by gone days.
I love social history and I think the stories of evacuees of the time are so touching. They make me think of the beautiful films 'Carrie's War' and 'Goodnight Mister Tom'.
