The narwhal tea cosy looks like a mythical animal, but it is a real whale that lives in the oceans and it really does have a single horn, just like a unicorn. Narwhals are just so phenomenal that I just had to design a narwhal tea cosy, and I really love him!

The narwhal tea cosy is knitted with double thickness yarn, one cream strand and one in Stylecraft Special DK Charcoal, which is a lovely mottled yarn, which helps to hive the narwhal a dappled like appearance. To keep the patternation the same throughout the whale, the two strands are used for most of knitting, this keeps the dappled effect but also adds to the structure of the narwhal to keep his fins stiffened.

The tail and horn are stiffened with plastic taken from a plastic milk bottle. I used a milk bottle because the plastic is flat in the middle.

The narwhal tea cosy is an enjoyable tea cosy to make and perfect for people who love programs like 'Blue Planet'.

You could make your narwhal look more magical looking by knitting it in a colour or using a sparkly yarn.

You'll have a whale of a time with this little fella on your teapot.
