The tea cosy has traditionally canal boat colours, dark green and bright red and yellow. The roof has a tin chimney, brass coloured air vents and a decorated pigeon box with button porthole windows. The boat also has bow and button fenders in case of any boating accidents.The spout of the teapot becomes the tiller for the boat.
